We can’t believe this handsome, sweet boy Bowie is still waiting for his forever family! This beautiful soul has been with SBR for several months, and everyone who meets him falls in love. Bowie is a recently retired breeder dog who’s finally getting his chance at the good life. Surrendered to SBR, he’s only just beginning his journey toward becoming a cherished family member. He’s in excellent health, full of spunk, and has energy to spare—this boy is ready to enjoy life.

Like many dogs coming from a breeding environment, Bowie can be a little shy and unsure of the big world outside a kennel. But every day, his foster dad sees more and more of his wonderful personality shining through. With time to decompress and feel safe, he continues to blossom into the sweet, goofy, and loving boy he truly is. Bowie’s ideal forever home will have another friendly dog to help guide him and give him confidence. A fenced-in yard is also a must—he loves exploring safely and having space to run and play.

Bowie has now completed his wellness check and neuter, and he is fully cleared for adoption. This sweet boy is officially ready to find his perfect forever home, where he can enjoy the comfort, love, and belly rubs he’s been waiting for.

Meet Otis, an 8-year-old senior basset who was surrendered when his family faced illness and could no longer be home as much. Wanting the very best for him, they made the loving decision to place him in our care.

Otis is truly the perfect gentleman. He has a wonderfully sweet personality and gets along beautifully with other dogs. In fact, he needs another dog in his forever home—he really enjoys the company of other pups, including younger dogs and even puppies.

His foster dad has discovered that Otis is quite capable of a little counter surfing from time to time. One thing we’ve also learned: Otis will need a secure, fenced-in yard. He has a curious streak and loves to “expand his horizons,” occasionally exploring beyond where he should. We think it’s mostly for the fun of it, but safety is key for this sweet explorer. Otherwise, Otis is incredibly loving, easygoing, and just an all-around wonderful basset. We honestly can’t believe he hasn’t found his forever home yet. Whoever adopts him will be getting a truly amazing companion.

Meet Bernie!

Bernie is 8 years young and ready to start the next chapter of his life. His former family made the difficult decision to surrender him due to his resource guarding behaviors and the presence of small children in the home.

This sweet, affectionate boy is just a little confused about all the recent changes in his world, but he’s already showing how much love he has to give. Bernie does best with predictability and personal space. He experiences sleep startle but that’s not to say he doesn’t like snuggling. Sleep startle means he can react when abruptly awakened, so a calm, adult-only home will be the safest match for him.

Bernie would thrive as an only dog, where he can relax without competition over resources. He can get along with cats, but he’s still territorial about his bed, so his new family should be mindful about keeping his resting spaces respected.

He absolutely LOVES running around the yard and playing fetch, and having a safe space to stretch his (little) legs is one of his favorite things—so a fenced-in yard will be important for him.

Bernie’s ideal forever home will be with someone who understands resource guarding and can provide him with structure, patience, and reassurance as he adjusts. With consistency and compassion, Bernie will thrive and show just how loving and loyal he can be.

Meet Gracie & Jasper. Gracie and Jasper are Suncoast Basset Rescue’s newest foster duo, and they are already stealing hearts wherever they go! This sweet bonded pair recently made quite the journey, traveling all the way from Mississippi to Florida to begin their next chapter with SBR.

They came to us with the help of our rescue partners at Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, who saved them from living outdoors alongside 18 dachshunds. Despite their past, Gracie and Jasper are happy, loving, and incredibly affectionate bassets who are clearly ready to be cherished family members.

Gracie, age 6, and Jasper, age 5, are inseparable and will need to be adopted together.  Gracie is the red & white, Jasper is the tricolor. They adore playing with one another, thrive on human attention, and are happiest when they’re surrounded by people who love them. Their foster mom describes them simply as “AMAZING,” and it’s easy to see why.

Both have recently received dental care and are settling in nicely to indoor life and all the comforts that come with it.

Meet Jake, a 3-year-old Basset Hound who has truly been given a second chance. Jake’s journey began at a veterinary clinic when his former owners requested euthanasia — a request the veterinarian compassionately refused. Instead, this dedicated vet stepped in to help Jake start over, providing him with needed medical care including neutering and vaccinations, and ensuring he was placed into a foster home. Jake has shown some resource guarding behaviors and has had incidents involving children, so we are seeking a home without children where he can feel safe and supported.

He will need a patient, experienced home that understands how to continue working with him and setting him up for success. Ideally, Jake would do best with an experienced Basset Hound adopter who understands the quirky, stubborn, and lovable traits the breed is known for. Jake is smart, confident, and always up for an adventure. The good news is that Jake gets along well with other dogs and has done well around cats, too.

He would thrive in a home with a securely fenced backyard where he can safely run, explore, and burn off some of his energy. If you think you can meet the needs of this handsome boy and provide him with the loving, stable home he deserves, we would love to hear from you.

Meet Olive! Olive is a beautiful 1.5-year-old basset girl with a sweet heart and a smart, curious mind. She’s affectionate, loving, and full of youthful energy — and while she’s probably been a little spoiled, she’s ready to learn boundaries and polish up her manners.

Left to her own devices, Olive may try her paw at counter-surfing or investigating anything within reach, so she’ll thrive with structure, consistency, and gentle guidance. She would do best in a home with a fenced yard and space to run, explore, and burn off some of that basset energy.

Olive needs regular exercise, mental stimulation, and lots of love to help keep her happy — and out of trouble! With the right home, Olive is sure to grow into an amazing lifelong companion. 

Meet Franklin! This handsome hunk is 4.5 years old and full of charm. Franklin’s family has experienced several big life changes in a short period of time, including multiple moves and an illness involving a family member, which may have contributed to some recent uncertainty and changes in his behavior.

What Franklin really needs now is stability, consistency, and a loving home where he can truly thrive. Franklin has always enjoyed having a fenced yard where he can run, play, and stretch his legs — something that would make him very happy in his next home.

He does wonderfully with other dogs and is extremely sociable with people. He’s polite, doesn’t jump, and has an adorable habit of gently nudging you with his paw when he’d like a little extra love and attention.

Confident and outgoing, Franklin handles new situations well and is not skittish around unfamiliar people or dogs. While he has never lived with a cat, he does enjoy chasing outdoor cats.

Franklin is not yet neutered and will be visiting the vet soon for a full wellness exam and to schedule his neuter procedure. He’s on his way to being fully adoption-ready and excited for the next chapter of his life.

Meet Susie! Susie is a beautiful 4-year-old basset hound with the sweetest soul — and yes, she comes with a little bit of that lovable, typical basset stubbornness too! Despite experiencing a great deal of loss and change in her young life, Susie remains gentle, affectionate, and eager to find the comfort and security of a forever home.

Before coming to Suncoast Basset Rescue, Susie suffered from glaucoma and unfortunately did not receive consistent medical care. Shortly after her arrival, it was clear that her eyes were causing her significant pain and discomfort. With her vision already very limited and no medical options available to preserve what remained, the best and kindest choice was to remove both of her eyes. Susie is now adjusting to life as a blind dog and is doing remarkably well with patience, reassurance, and routine.

Because of her past experiences, Susie is looking for a calm, patient, and loving home where she can feel safe and cherished. We believe she would thrive in a home with another friendly basset who can help show her the ropes and provide her with added confidence and companionship. Susie is especially in need of stability, gentle guidance, and lots of love as she continues to heal and grow.

Meet Subway Rick! Subway Rick is a handsome, fun-loving hound with a big personality and loves belly rubs! Although he’s estimated to be around 4 years old, Rick acts much younger and brings plenty of youthful energy and enthusiasm to everything he does. Rick’s journey hasn’t been the easiest. He was found as a stray and went to the local shelter before being pulled by a small rescue. After two short-lived adoptions that simply weren’t the right match, they reached out to Suncoast Basset Rescue so Rick could get the experienced, basset-savvy support he truly deserves.

We’re thrilled to help this special boy find his forever home! Rick is an active, high-energy guy who thrives with structure, consistency, and regular attention. A fenced in yard is a must for this guy too.  He loves his squeaky toys and is always ready for playtime. He does well with other dogs and is very people-friendly, making him a wonderful companion for an active household. He jumps and can be mouthy when he plays – typical basset behavior. With the right routine, patience, and love, Subway Rick is sure to blossom into an amazing lifelong companion.

Meet 4-year-old Daisy and 2-year-old Lilly. These beautiful girls first came to SBR when their dad entered hospice, and we were able to find them a loving adoptive home. Sadly, through no fault of their own, they are now being returned to us. Their path has not been an easy one, and some days in rescue tug at the heart more than others… today is one of those days.

After so much change in such a short time, Daisy and Lilly are feeling insecure and unsure of what comes next. They will need a patient, loving family to help rebuild their confidence and remind them that they are safe, wanted, and will never be abandoned again.

Despite everything, these girls remain incredibly sweet and gentle. Both are healthy, affectionate, and completely housebroken. They get along with other dogs and have already shown us what wonderful companions they’ll be for the right home.

Lilly is the shy one, taking things slowly and leaning on her sister for security. Daisy is more outgoing and enjoys new friends—both canine and human. And for those who wonder—they passed the “storm test” with flying colors and aren’t fazed by thunder at all.

Because they are a deeply bonded pair, Daisy and Lilly will stay side by side as they move into their next chapter.

Meet Lloyd and Darla. These two sweet, adorable 5-year-old bassets came to SBR after their family suffered a devastating house fire and could no longer care for them. Despite all that they have been through, they seem like very loving, well-balanced dogs who are truly appreciative of the consistent attention they are now getting.

Lloyd and Darla are a bonded pair who rely on each other for comfort. They’re currently receiving medical care, especially Lloyd, and both need to put on some healthy weight. Despite everything, their basset mischief still shines through — they’ve already done a little counter surfing to show us their personality!

They love exploring the backyard, hanging out together, and soaking up the sunshine. As they heal physically and emotionally, we’re excited to help them start the next chapter of their lives.

Darla is a tricolor with the black head and freckles. Lloyd is a tricolor with the brown head. 

Meet Copper! Copper is a young bundle of basset joy! This sweet girl loves people and is wonderful with kids, making her a fantastic family companion. She also gets along great with other dogs and would truly thrive in a home with a canine buddy to keep her company and play with.

Copper still has plenty of puppy energy and enthusiasm. She enjoys playtime, exploring the yard, and going for walks where she can sniff all the best smells. Because she’s used to having someone home more often than not, she would do best in a home where she won’t be left alone for long periods.

A securely fenced yard is a must for Copper so she can safely burn off energy and enjoy outdoor time. With her affectionate personality, playful spirit, and loving nature, Copper is ready to bring endless smiles to her forever family.

Meet Daisy!  Daisy is a beautiful 4-year-old basset hound who is finally getting the chance to experience the life every dog deserves. Before coming to Suncoast Basset Rescue five months ago, Daisy spent her early years as a breeder female. Her world was very limited, and she missed out on the love, attention, and positive human interactions that most dogs enjoy. Despite her past, Daisy is incredibly sweet and gentle.

She may be a little shy at first and needs time to build trust, but once she feels safe, her loving personality truly shines. Since arriving at SBR, Daisy has made wonderful progress in her recovery and care — she has been treated for ear infections and skin issues, had surgery to correct two cherry eyes, and has been spayed. Unfortunately, Daisy’s cherry eye surgery did not hold and the cherry eyes have returned.

At this time, we do not want to put her through another surgery, and they do not affect her happy, comfortable daily life. Daisy will do best in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely explore and relax, and with another friendly dog to help boost her confidence and show her the ropes.

She does wonderfully with children as well, as their gentle and non-threatening energy seems to put her at ease. What Daisy needs most is a family willing to offer patience, kindness, and unconditional love as she continues to learn that the world can be a safe and happy place. If you’re looking for a sweet soul to love and nurture, Daisy may be the perfect match for you.

Meet Maui! Maui is 5 years old and packs a whole lot of energy into a small package! This confident, social, and friendly guy loves being around people and gets along great with other dogs. In his forever home, Maui would do best with a fenced in yard and another active, playful pup to help keep him happy and stimulated.

Maui is also wonderful with cats and kids, making him a great fit for many types of families. Don’t let those short little legs fool you — this clever guy has mastered the art of counter surfing! He thrives with a consistent routine and is already crate trained, which helps set him up for success.

If you’re looking for a fun-loving, outgoing companion with a big personality in a compact basset package, Maui might just be your perfect match! 

Meet Sami Sue! Sami Sue is a 7-year-old SBR alum who has rejoined our rescue family after the passing of her beloved owner. As with all SBR alumni, we are committed to honoring her family’s wishes and ensuring she receives the love, care, and stability she deserves.

We believe Sami Sue is a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, a less common hound breed originally developed for hunting rabbits—much like our basset hounds. She is very sweet and gentle, with a tender spirit and soulful eyes that make her easy to fall in love with. She weighs about 40 lbs.

Right now, Sami Sue is a bit shy as she settles into her new foster home, but she is already showing her quiet charm and sweet nature. With time, patience, and love, we know her personality will continue to blossom.
