BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Barbara Weber—President
I’ve been an SBR volunteer since 2016 after I found myfirst basset hound, Mimi, as a stray on the streets. I currently have 2 SBR bassets—Willie and Ella—both foster fails.
I’ve worked in the animal field all my life and have a great passion for animal welfare. I worked as a primate keeper at Brookfield Zoo and as a zoological manager at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I’m recently retired and still trying to make a difference in the animal world—but now I’m doing it for dogs.
Chris Thomas—VP & Treasurer
I am a native Southern Californian who served in the Marine Corps, captained fishing boats and worked my way through USC. After working in Arthur Andersen’s audit group, I spent more than 30 years in the multi-unit restaurant industry.
Our basset journey began in 2003 with a discarded runt puppy (Lady). I am retired and currently live with two SBR hounds— June & Gus—hounds number five and six.
Nancy Klove—Secretary
I learned of SBR when looking to adopt my basset Maynard in 2017. He has since passed but he left hisbasset sisters - Matilda, Daisy (SBR foster fail), Clementine (SBR foster fail) and 3 cats. My professional life was in global corporate real estate with AT&T and then CBRE, and I managed properties and teams worldwide.
I am currently one of SBR’s adoption coordinators, working to find great homes for FL hounds in need.
Karen Young—Founder
I’m a retired nurse “gone to the dogs.” I’m also acertified veterinary technician. I’ve lived the majority of my life overseas.
In 1997, I was approached by the Suncoast Basset Hound Club of Tampa to start a rescue. It takes a village, and here we are today finding homes for “Mother Nature’s clowns.”
Alysa Emden
A life-long lover of basset hounds, I’m currently owned by three—Tobie, Jade & Cooper (an SBR alum).
I am an attorney specializing in the taxation of nonprofit organizations and serve on the boards of several charities.
I was thrilled to discover BR when I moved to Florida several years ago, and love working as SBR’s intake coordinator
Larry Little
I am the President of Guardian Angel Basset Rescue in Illinois, and have been affiliated with SBR for over 20 years. My first contact with the group was with Karen Young when SBR was initially founded. I am honored to be able to help SBR accomplish my dream of “No Basset Left Behind”.
