Shelby’s Story
Meet Shelby, a sweet and resilient 8-year-old basset who has faced a difficult past but is now surrounded by the love and care of her SBR foster family. For much of her life, she lived outdoors, tied up with minimal medical attention. She arrived at the rescue covered in fleas but has quickly adapted to the comfort of indoor life. Despite these challenges, Shelby has quickly learned to trust her foster family, and she absolutely adores people.
Shelby is heartworm positive and has been undergoing the slow-kill treatment. She has also been experiencing another major health issue of bloody stools, that has not resolved despite undergoing several treatment plans. It was decided that it was necessary to schedule her endoscopy to determine the root cause, if possible, of the bleeding. The diagnosis revealed an anal adenoma, thankfully benign, though it is located too far up to be surgically removed. This will be something that will be continually monitored and most likely will cause more serious medical issues for her. After careful consideration, SBR has decided to make Shelby a forever foster, where she will receive ongoing medical care and continue to live in the comfort and safety of her loving foster family. Shelby’s journey may not have been easy, but with the support of her dedicated foster family, she will enjoy the rest of her life in peace and happiness.
