Steps for Oscar

Oscar came to Suncoast Basset Rescue on June 17, 2026, paralyzed in his hind legs after suffering for several years from degenerative spinal disc damage. His owner loved him but could not afford the specialized care he urgently needed.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, SBR didn’t hesitate to say “yes.”

The very next day, Oscar was transferred to Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center. An MRI revealed both chronic and acute disc disease, and on June 19 he underwent extensive spinal surgery. After several days of recovery and monitoring, Oscar was discharged to a loving SBR foster home where he has begun his long recuperation.

The bill so far? $9,561.05—and that is after a generous discount from the specialty hospital.

Oscar’s journey isn’t over yet. He still faces follow-up appointments, rehabilitation therapy, and weeks of recovery before we know whether he will regain full mobility.
