Daphne

Meet Daphne, a beautiful 13-year-old basset hound with a gentle spirit and a touch of diva flair. Daphne came to Suncoast Basset Rescue alongside her son, Simon, after the two were surrendered to a small shelter that recognized they needed more care than it could provide. Both dogs arrived in rough condition, covered in fleas and ticks and testing positive for heartworms. Daphne’s case was particularly severe — the heavy heartworm infestation had caused enlargement of both her heart and pulmonary artery. Because of these health concerns, our veterinary team had to wait quite some time before it was safe for her to undergo her spay surgery. Despite everything she has been through, Daphne’s sweet personality shines through. Her foster mom describes her as a bit of a diva in the most endearing way. She absolutely loves plush toys and can almost always be found proudly carrying one around in her mouth. Daphne has a calm, loving nature and a gentle way about her that makes everyone around her smile. And when it comes to treats, Daphne believes they are all good treats! Because of her ongoing medical needs, Daphne has become one of SBR’s Forever Fosters. This means Suncoast Basset Rescue will continue to provide for her medical care for the rest of her life while she enjoys the comfort and stability of her foster home. There, she is surrounded by her devoted foster mom and her furry siblings, living the safe, loved, and pampered life she truly deserves.
