In Loving Memory of Daisy

It is with deep sadness that we share Forever Foster, Daisy, has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Though she was only with SBR for three short months, she was a big personality in a tiny body and loved “talking” to her foster family every chance she got.

Daisy came to us through no fault of her own after ending up at the Brevard County shelter—sadly, not her first time there. Her previous owner had his own troubles, leaving Daisy without the stability and love she deserved. Thankfully, one of our incredible volunteers, Jennifer Allen, didn’t hesitate for a moment. She was at the shelter the very day Daisy needed rescue, ready to bring her to safety.

Very soon after arriving, Daisy was diagnosed with liver cancer. But true to her basset spirit, she lived each day with joy and enthusiasm. Daisy had opinions to share, loved her toys with great enthusiasm, and took special pride in de-squeaking every stuffed animal she could get her paws on. And despite her short time with us, Daisy even got to experience her Secret Santa gifts—becoming the very first foster to receive them this year.

Until just a few days ago, her illness never seemed to slow her down. Then, as Jen shared, it was as if a switch flipped—Daisy began sleeping most of the day, only getting up for water or a quick trip outside. She stopped eating, stopped chatting, and no longer asked for car rides or tried to drop toys in Jen’s lap during workouts. She was telling us her little body was tired.

What comforts us is knowing that during these last three months, Daisy finally experienced what every dog deserves: unconditional love, comfort, and a soft place to land. The Allen family gave her all of this and more. They made sure her final chapter was full of gentleness, safety, and warmth.

To Jen, Blake, Chelsea, and Logan—there are no words big enough to express our gratitude. Thank you for opening your hearts, for giving Daisy a true home, and for loving her all the way to the end. She left this world knowing she mattered.

Run free, sweet Daisy. You were cherished.
